Battle Master — Sagor från Valoris

The Battle Master is the scholar of the sword — a warrior who treats combat as a craft to be studied, drilled, and dissected until every exchange becomes a problem with a known answer. Where a lesser fighter simply attacks, the Battle Master trips, disarms, feints, and goads, spending hard-won technique like a swordsman's currency. Each maneuver is a small, precise cruelty, deployed at exactly the moment it undoes the enemy's plan.

This is the most tactical face of the fighter, and the most versatile. A Battle Master reads foes for weaknesses, herds them where they don't want to go, protects allies with a well-timed riposte, and turns a chaotic melee into a game whose rules only they seem to know. Their edge isn't strength or magic — it is preparation, made lethal.

3rd Level

Combat Superiority

You learn techniques fueled by Superiority Dice. You know three Maneuvers to start (learning more at 7th, 10th, and 15th) and have four d8 Superiority Dice, refilled on a Short or Long Rest, gaining a fifth at 7th level and a sixth at 15th. When a Maneuver calls for a save, the DC is 8 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier + your Proficiency Bonus, and you can use only one Maneuver per attack.

3rd Level

Maneuvers

Each Maneuver spends a Superiority Die for a distinct effect. Trip and Pushing Attack knock a foe Prone or back 15 feet; Disarming Attack tears a weapon from their grip; Menacing and Goading attacks Frighten or bait them into striking only you; Precision Attack adds the die to your roll to salvage a miss; Riposte and Parry punish or blunt a foe's blow as a Reaction; Rally and Commander's Strike bolster and command allies. Most add the die to your damage on a hit.

3rd Level

Student of War

Your study runs beyond the drill yard. You gain proficiency with one type of Artisan's Tools of your choice, and proficiency in one additional skill from the fighter's list — a soldier who understands the making of things as well as the breaking of them.

7th Level

Know Your Enemy

As a Bonus Action, you size up a creature you can see within 30 feet, learning whether it has any Immunities, Resistances, or Vulnerabilities — and exactly what they are. Once used, you can't again until a Long Rest, unless you expend a Superiority Die to refresh it. A moment's read, and you know precisely where to hit.

10th & 18th Level

Improved Combat Superiority

Your technique sharpens with mastery. At 10th level your Superiority Dice become d10s, and at 18th level they become d12s — every Maneuver hitting harder, every riposte and rally landing with greater weight, as decades of practice compound into something few warriors ever reach.

15th Level

Relentless

Your technique never truly runs dry. Once per turn, when you use a Maneuver and have no Superiority Dice remaining, you can roll 1d8 and use it as a Superiority Die for that Maneuver anyway — so the well is never quite empty when the moment demands one last trick.
