Ranger

The ranger is the warden of the borderlands — equally at home tracking a beast through trackless forest, reading weather off the wind, and putting an arrow through a target at the edge of sight. They live where the map runs out, in the wild places that swallow ordinary travelers, and they have made those places their own. Part hunter, part scout, part woodland spellcaster, the ranger is the one who goes first into the unknown and comes back knowing the way.

In a fight, the ranger is a patient, focused killer. They pick a target, mark it, and grind it down with unerring attacks while the terrain itself seems to conspire on their behalf. A thread of primal magic sharpens everything they do — a spell to snare, to heal, to see in the dark — and their chosen archetype hones that patient lethality to a razor's edge. Where the wild is dangerous, the ranger is the danger that belongs there.

Favored Enemy

You always have the Hunter's Mark spell prepared, and can cast it without a spell slot a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus each Long Rest. Name a creature your quarry, and every hit you land on it deals extra damage — while your focus on it never wavers.

The mark is the beating heart of the ranger's hunt: a target singled out and steadily ground down, the spell that turns a good archer into a relentless one.

1st Level

Natural Explorer

The wild holds no terror for you. You master the ways of your favored terrain, moving through difficult ground without being slowed, keeping the party fed and on-course, and remaining alert to danger even at rest. Where others are lost, exhausted, or ambushed, you are simply home — reading the land like a page you've read a hundred times.

2nd Level

Fighting Style

You hone a signature approach to battle, gaining a Fighting Style feat of your choice — most often the deadly accuracy of Archery, though the guard of Defense or the grace of Two-Weapon Fighting suit the ranger just as well.

2nd Level

Spellcasting

A thread of primal magic runs through your craft. You are a half-caster, drawing on Wisdom to prepare and cast ranger spells — snares and speed, healing and heightened senses — folded into your hunting so seamlessly that the magic feels like just another woodland skill.

3rd Level

Ranger Archetype

You commit to an Archetype that focuses your hunt, gaining features at 3rd, 7th, 11th, and 15th level. Each one sharpens a different edge — a bonded beast, fey enchantment, ambush from the dark, or the pure predator's craft. All four are gathered below.

5th Level

Extra Attack

You can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn — two arrows in the time others loose one, and twice as many chances to grind your marked quarry down.

20th Level

Foe Slayer

Your focus becomes lethal certainty. Once on each of your turns, you can add your Wisdom modifier to an attack roll or a damage roll you make — bending the hunt's outcome in your favor at the decisive moment, the culmination of a lifetime spent learning exactly where a thing is weakest.
