College of Valor — Sagor från Valoris

Long before bards were players of quiet halls, they were the voices of the war-band — the skalds who marched in the front rank, named the brave, and turned a ragged line into an army with nothing but a song and their own unflinching example. The College of Valor keeps that older tradition alive. Its bards do not hang back to inspire from safety; they stand in the shield-wall and inspire by being there.

Such a bard is a soldier and a spellcaster woven into one figure. They know the weight of steel and the shape of a spell equally well, and have learned to swing the one while casting the other, so that no beat of the fight is ever wasted. To follow Valor is to believe that courage is best taught by demonstration — that the surest way to make others brave is to be braver first.

3rd Level

Combat Inspiration

Your inspiration is forged for the battlefield. A creature holding a Bardic Inspiration die from you can spend it in one of two ways. Defense: when it's hit by an attack, it can use its Reaction to roll the die and add the result to its AC against that attack, possibly turning the hit into a miss. Offense: immediately after it hits with an attack, it can roll the die and add the result to that attack's damage.

3rd Level

Martial Training

You take up the soldier's kit in earnest. You gain proficiency with Martial weapons and training with Medium armor and Shields. You can also use a Simple or Martial weapon as a Spellcasting Focus for your bard spells — sword and spell drawn from the same hand.

6th Level

Extra Attack

You can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. And because you never set the magic aside, you can replace one of those attacks with a cantrip that has a casting time of an action — a blade in one beat, a spell in the next.

14th Level

Battle Magic

You have woven spellcraft and swordplay into a single unbroken motion. When you take the Magic action to cast a spell with a casting time of an action, you can make one weapon attack as a Bonus Action — the incantation and the killing stroke landing in the same breath.
